DESIGN

Unlike conventional smartwatches, Xiaomi Mi Watch Lite features a squarish look. This design often compares with the more costly Mi Watch Revolve’s circular design. In any case, I really like how it feels. Since it is a budget smartwatch, Watch Lite is entirely made of plastic, resulting in a net weight of just 35 grams.

Since it’s a custom harness, don’t get too excited about replacing it with a universal 20/22mm strap. Nonetheless, it is 5ATM rated, allowing you to take it to your swimming sessions. It also helps that the watch can monitor swimming in both open water and pools, which is fantastic.

A conventional loop/buckle strap mechanism is used on the Mi Watch Lite. Now, this is completely nitpicking, but I would have preferred an extra loop to keep the brace in place. Moving on, the right frame of the watch has a multi-function button. You have the choice of bringing up the home screen or the app drawer.

DISPLAY

Let’s now turn our focus to the show. A large 1.4-inch TFT LCD monitor with a 320 by 320 pixel count and a 323 PPI pixel density greets you. This display also features a 60 percent NTSC color space and a rated brightness of 350 nits. The screen is also curved on all four sides for improved comfort and swiping ease. To avoid swaying people away from the company.

Xiaomi offers over 120 different watch faces to choose from. For a budget smartwatch, that’s a pretty large range. Almost instantly, I chose this “Extreme LCD” watch face. I love it because it is so vintage, nostalgic, and timeless. If none of this appeals to you, I’m happy to say that there are a slew of other well-designed watch faces to choose from.

When it comes to the user interface, it’s pretty simple. Swiping left/right flips between pages such as heart rate, weather, sleep record, music, and so on. Likewise, all of your messages will be clustered on top, with the control panel accessible by swiping up from the bottom.

TRACKING

The Mi Watch Lite has 11 exercise modes, including running, cycling, swimming, and cricket—basic stuff. There’s also no automatic exercise identification, and I was surprised to see that there’s no SpO2 (blood oxygen) monitoring.

Mi Watch Lite also has breathing exercises built in, and you can control the tempo of the session. All of your exercise data can be viewed in depth in the Xiaomi Wear app, but certain simple features like calories burned, steps taken, and standing data are available directly on the watch.

In addition, it will keep track of your heart rate. Although there is no 24-hour monitoring, the Watch Lite will record it in cyclical intervals ranging from 1 to 30 minutes. It will also notify you if the heart rate rises above the normal range. Moving on, this smartwatch will also keep track of your sleep.

BATTERY LIFE

Finally, we’ll discuss battery life. Xiaomi claims that a 230mAh battery will last up to 9 days in regular use and 10 hours with continuous GPS on. Surprisingly, I was able to get 10 days of battery life under normal conditions, including an hour and a half of GPS use. My brightness was set to auto, and my heart rate monitoring intervals were set to 30 minutes.
